Bitcoin Surges Amid Iran Tensions; Ethereum Stuck Below $2,000
The cryptocurrency market saw mixed movements on Monday as traders weighed the risks of geopolitical tensions in Iran against selling pressure from large corporate Bitcoin treasuries. Bitcoin surged to an intraday high of $64,020 before pulling back to around $62,000, while Ethereum remained stuck at $1,800. The global cryptocurrency market capitalization dipped 0.79% over the last 24 hours to $2.2 trillion.
An increase in open interest alongside an increase in price indicates long buildup, meaning new buyers are entering the market. This is a positive sign for Bitcoin bulls, but CryptoQuant notes that the Adaptive Sell-side Risk Ratio has declined to levels historically associated with accumulation phases. However, they emphasize that this does not necessarily mean a local bottom has already formed.
Michaël van de Poppe, a widely followed cryptocurrency analyst and trader, is more optimistic about Ethereum's prospects. He projects that Ethereum will hold $1,800 and break the $2,000 barrier, potentially leading to a rapid run-up to $2,300 and higher.
