Bitcoin Surges on Hopes for Strait of Hormuz Breakthrough
Bitcoin's price surged above $64,000 after reports emerged that the US, Iran, and Oman were making progress in resolving tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.
The news came as officials from the three countries were reportedly close to signing an interim agreement to resume normal traffic on the waterway. According to Axios, US President Donald Trump wanted this announcement to be made later today.
The proposed agreement involves waiving transit charges for ships passing through the strait, including a possible payment option in Bitcoin. The deal also includes clearing naval mines from the central lane of the strait and establishing two-way traffic in the corridor.
Bitcoin's price rose over $2,000 since it tested $62,200, breaking above the $64,000 resistance level. Analysts caution that a permanent diplomatic resolution is needed for investors to accept this as a breakout.
