Bitcoin Surges Past $72,000 as Golden Cross Nears
Bitcoin has broken above $72,000 after a week of strong gains, pushing its price more than 12% higher. This surge positions the largest cryptocurrency near a golden cross, a technical indicator that historically precedes further gains.
The rally carried Bitcoin's price above its 200-day simple moving average for the first sustained period since October 2025, when it traded at around $110,000. The move was fueled by a combination of short liquidations and a surge of capital into US spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which recorded $517.19 million in net inflows on August 19.
Traders are watching key technical levels to determine whether the breakout has staying power, with $70,250 serving as the first line of support below price and the $67,000 to $67,200 zone viewed as the critical invalidation level. A weekly close above the 200-day average would strengthen confirmation of the bullish shift, while a drop back below it could invalidate the breakout.
