Bitcoin Surges Past $75,000 Amid Divided Analyst Opinions
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a major surge, with Bitcoin (BTC) surpassing $75,000 for the first time in months. Analysts are divided on the sustainability of this rally, with some saying it's excessive.
Several factors have contributed to the rise, including the US Treasury Department's decision to increase long-term bond buybacks and the SEC's new cryptocurrency regulation proposal. The liquidation of over $2.75 billion in Bitcoin short positions has accelerated the upward trend.
However, some analysts are approaching this rally with caution. Sean Young, a senior analyst at MEXC Research, notes that the US Treasury Department's intervention only accelerated short liquidations and did not change Bitcoin's fundamental macroeconomic conditions.
Zeus Research analyst Dominic John also expressed caution, stating that short position liquidations supported the rise in the short term but that continued new capital inflows are needed to sustain it. Bloomberg Intelligence commodities strategist Mike McGlone believes the rise may be a temporary bounce within a bear market, citing high volatility and oversupply.
In contrast, crypto asset manager 21Shares stated that selling pressure on Bitcoin has almost reached its lowest levels, with the Bitcoin Seller Exhaustion indicator at around 0.007, the lowest point in all daily measurements since 2010. Analysts note that this indicator has reached this level 11 times before and in all cases, Bitcoin reached higher levels a year later.
