Bitcoin Surges Past $77k as Global Crypto Market Cap Hits $2.75T
The global crypto market cap rose by 1.3% to $2.75 trillion over the past 24 hours, fueled by a surge in Bitcoin's price.
Bitcoin traded at $77,821.09, up 1.1% on the day and contributing to the overall increase in the market capitalization.
Ethereum also saw some gains, with its price rising by 0.8% to $2,501.90 over the past 24 hours, but it was relatively flat compared to last week, up just 0.3%.
In contrast, other assets like BNB and Solana experienced declines in their prices, with BNB down 2.8% weekly and Solana falling by 2.3% over the same period.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clarity on cryptocurrency regulations, but Democrats are preparing a counterproposal that could potentially delay or alter the bill's passage.
In related news, Blockstream has refused to pay the ransom demanded by hackers and instead wants the remaining 598.5 BTC returned.
The top gainers in the market included Zcash, which surged by 7.8% to $1,142.71, as well as Pons, which rose by 19.9% to $0.6189, and Anonymous Cat, up by 19.2% to $0.1028.
Zclassic was the biggest winner among top gainers, with its price skyrocketing by 63.1% to $1.9126.
