Bitcoin Surges Past $78K Amid US-Iran Diplomacy Claims
Bitcoin surged past $78,000 as investors reassessed their expectations for a US-Iran agreement in the wake of Donald Trump's claims that Iran was eager to reach a deal. However, Iranian state media rejected this characterization, stating that Washington was pursuing a phased deal through a Pakistani intermediary.
The conflict has kept energy markets on edge, with oil prices remaining above $100 and exerting pressure on inflation expectations and risk markets. Derek Tang of MPA Macro noted that traders are increasingly recognizing the risk that the Iran war could last longer than anticipated, which would have little impact on energy prices but reinforce inflation pressure and tighter monetary policy expectations.
Bitcoin has shown its propensity for rapid price swings in response to macroeconomic and geopolitical headlines, having fallen to $76,367 before rebounding towards $79,000 within the same session. The cryptocurrency remains well below its October 2025 peak above $126,000.
