Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000 Amid Debasement Fears and Dollar Weakness
Bitcoin has surged above $80,000 after a weaker US dollar and Treasury bond buybacks reignited fears of debasement. The move comes as President Trump called for clearer crypto regulation last week, sending Bitcoin up 16%. Analysts say the Treasury's actions have created a supportive macro backdrop for assets like Bitcoin and gold.
Tim Sun, senior researcher at HashKey Group, said Bessent's messaging has reinforced the market's view that US policymakers may have a lower tolerance for a further rise in long-end yields. This would boost assets such as Bitcoin and gold.
The Treasury announcement is seen as 'exactly the type of thing bitcoin loves' by Geoff Kendrick, global head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered. He added that Bitcoin was built to allow investors a way to avoid this type of intervention.
