Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000 as Debasement Trade Reignites Optimism
Bitcoin has risen to $81,257, its highest level since mid-May, as the cryptocurrency market experiences a surge in optimism. This increase comes after Bitcoin rallied 23% in the seven days leading up to Sunday, marking its biggest weekly jump in about three years.
The rise in Bitcoin's value can be attributed to various bullish signals that have forced the liquidation of billions in leveraged bets. The debasement trade, which involves investors seeking to escape fiat currency devaluation and inflation driven by central bank money creation, has been renewed with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's announcement that the US will step up its bond repurchases.
Bitcoin was originally created as a way to counteract these effects. The token remains below its peak of about $126,000 reached in October but is still experiencing significant growth.
