Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000 as Dollar Weakness Boosts Momentum

Bitcoin has surpassed the $80,000 mark, reaching its highest level since mid-May. The cryptocurrency rose by over 16% following a series of events that boosted investor confidence in the market.

The US Treasury's announcement to buy back long-dated bonds to cap gains in long-end yields led to a decline in the value of the US dollar. This move, combined with US President Donald Trump's call for clearer definitions on cryptocurrencies, has sparked increased interest in Bitcoin and other digital assets.

According to Tim Sun, senior researcher at HashKey Group, Bessent's messaging has reinforced the market's view that US policymakers may have a lower tolerance for further rises in long-end yields. This has created a relatively supportive macro backdrop for assets like bitcoin and gold.

Gold, another beneficiary of dollar weakness, has also reached a three-month high. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore predicts that a sustained break above the current price could lead to a move towards $95,000-$100,000.
