Bitcoin Surges Past $80K Amid Trump-Boosted Sentiment
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing one of its most significant rallies this year, with Bitcoin (BTC) hitting $80K and pulling the larger market up with it. According to CoinGecko data, BTC's price has rallied by 4.2% in the last 24 hours and more than 25% in both the weekly and 14-day charts.
The rally is attributed to several factors. One of them is President Trump's recent cryptocurrency event at the White House, where he stated that the US plans to purchase a large amount of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies. This statement may have boosted investor sentiment.
Another factor contributing to the price surge is the US Treasury's plan to increase bond buybacks from $2 billion to at least $4 billion, which has led to increased liquidity in the market. Additionally, BlackRock's IBIT Bitcoin (BTC) ETF has seen significant inflows over the last few weeks, with Farside Investors data showing that it has purchased more than $1 billion worth of BTC since August 17.
However, despite the current rally, the market remains volatile and uncertain. The substantial liquidation over the weekend, which wiped out $550 million within 60 minutes on Saturday, August 22, highlights the risks involved. Furthermore, inflation in the US is still above the Federal Reserve's 2% target, and a potential interest rate hike could lead to a price correction for Bitcoin (BTC).
