Bitcoin Surges Past $82K on Short Squeeze, Altcoin Rallies Follow
Bitcoin surged past $82,000 on September 3 after a massive short squeeze, which triggered a $758 million total crypto market liquidation dominated by shorts. The short squeeze fueled a notable rally in Zcash and significant moves in Ethereum, Solana, and XRP.
The rally was driven mainly by derivatives short squeezes rather than fresh ETF inflows, with open interest remaining high at $54 billion, indicating continued leverage in the market.
However, despite the spike, Bitcoin settled near $80,500 before dipping to $79,200, now testing resistance around $81,500, a key level to sustain momentum.
