Bitcoin Surges Past Gold in Recent Price Action
Bitcoin's recent performance has been noteworthy, particularly in comparison to gold. While rate hike expectations have increased around the Fed, Bitcoin continues to hover around the $80k level. In contrast, gold has pulled back more significantly since breaking out last month following the July FOMC rate decision.
The chart analysis suggests that Bitcoin's breakout was even larger than gold's, and it has so far held support at the 23.6% retracement of its recent move. Gold, on the other hand, has touched down to the 50% marker and currently finds resistance at the 38.2% retracement.
Central banks accumulate and stockpile gold, whereas Bitcoin is still largely held by early adopters with low cost basis who are sensitive to fresh psychological levels. This dichotomy highlights the different drives behind these two markets, even though they are both considered hedges against fiat currencies.
