Bitcoin Surges Past Meta and Tesla to 13th Largest Asset
Bitcoin has made a significant leap in its market capitalization, surpassing Meta Platforms and Tesla to become the 13th largest asset globally. This milestone was achieved as part of an ongoing game of musical chairs among top assets, with rankings shifting frequently due to price fluctuations.
The cryptocurrency's position among the world's largest assets has been unstable in 2026, bouncing between the 13th and 14th spots multiple times since May. Its ranking shifted on a near-daily basis as its price oscillated within the $62,000 to $65,000 range.
According to recent data, Bitcoin was logged at the 14th position with a market cap of approximately $1.280 trillion on August 12, trailing both Tesla and Meta. However, it has since reclaimed the 13th spot, illustrating the fluidity of these rankings.
This development comes amidst a broader trend where assets are jostling for positions in the top tier. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), which surpassed $1 trillion in assets under management earlier this year, is one such example. However, it's worth noting that VOO's assets represent investor capital parked in a fund, whereas Bitcoin's market cap is calculated by multiplying every coin in existence by the current spot price.
