Bitcoin Surges to 18 Ounces of Gold as Debt Concerns Rise
Bitcoin's (BTC) price has rallied to around $80,800 to $81,000, pushing its value up and causing it to outperform gold. The bitcoin-to-gold ratio is now at 18.17, which is the highest reading since January.
This means that one Bitcoin can buy approximately 18 ounces of gold, a significant increase from previous months. The rally in both assets comes as investors are concerned about debt levels and currency debasement. Heavy indebted governments may lean on inflation to reduce their obligations, rather than cutting spending or raising interest rates.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently stated that the world is awash in debt and that growth is the only realistic way out, which some see as an endorsement of Bitcoin's pitch. SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci noted that this statement was 'the best Bitcoin ad of the year'.
While this rally may be a sign that investors are shifting their store-of-value demand from gold to Bitcoin, it is unclear whether this trend will persist. Some argue that the higher volatility in Bitcoin's price may simply amplify the same debasement narrative faster than gold can move.
