Bitcoin Surges to $64,986 Amid Security Breach and BIP-110 Hard Fork Concerns
Bitcoin's price has surged to nearly $65,000 amid a significant security breach in BTCPay Server. Hackers exploited vulnerabilities in the Lightning Network nodes, causing several operators to lose funds. Foundation, a hardware wallet maker, was among those affected, prompting urgent software upgrades.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the security of Bitcoin infrastructure, particularly as institutional interest remains strong. US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1 billion in inflows last week, while wallet creation surged to a 12-month high.
Meanwhile, a proposed BIP-110 hard fork is at risk of splitting the Bitcoin network due to low miner support, which could lead to transaction replay vulnerabilities.
