Bitcoin Surges to $77,800 as Analysts Eye Key Resistance at $80,000
Bitcoin's price has surged over the past seven days, rising from $63,387 to around $77,800, a 22% increase. According to analysts, this rally is being driven by macroeconomic factors rather than crypto-specific ones.
CoinShares' James Butterfill believes that Bitcoin is in a 'late stage of the bear market,' with $80,000 being a key resistance level ahead. He expects the market to hold its range around current levels, with $80,000 an important upper boundary.
Butterfill also notes that whales have stopped selling and begun accumulating again, although not at a scale that would imply an immediate and sustained breakout.
The upcoming Jackson Hole meeting is seen as a key test for Bitcoin's price, with the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates set to be announced on September 16. The market is currently pricing in a 38.4% chance of a rate hike, against 61.6% for no change.
Analysts such as Tim Sun and Stephen Wundke agree that $80,000 represents clear resistance, with clearing it requiring new incremental capital and more definitive macroeconomic catalysts.
