Bitcoin Surges to $80,000 Amid Global Debt Crisis Fears
Bitcoin has broken through the $80,000 mark after a week of strong performance, driven by concerns over a global debt crisis and a weakening dollar.
The cryptocurrency's rise was partly fueled by changes in the bond market following U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's announcement to at least double buybacks of long-term Treasury bonds.
This move lowered bond yields, weakened the dollar, and pushed gold prices higher, leading investors to seek out scarce assets like bitcoin through the debasement trade.
Other factors contributing to Bitcoin's surge include mass liquidations of short positions, inflows into spot BTC ETFs, and expectations of more favorable regulatory conditions in the United States.
