Bitcoin Surges to $82K on Waller's Rate Signal

BTC soared to $82,107 on Thursday after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller signaled support for keeping interest rates steady. This shift in rate expectations sent shockwaves through markets, with the US Dollar Index falling by 0.6% and the 10-year Treasury yield dropping four basis points to 4.76%. The gold price also climbed over 2%, reaching $4,478 an ounce.

The rally came as traders reassessed their expectations for the Federal Reserve's September interest-rate decision. The central bank's next move will be influenced by Friday's jobs report and the August Consumer Price Index report on September 11. Markets are now positioning ahead of these key events, with the Fed's September 15-16 meeting looming in the background.

However, despite the impressive gains, technical indicators suggest that Bitcoin's rally may be driven more by short covering than strong new long positioning. The $83,000-$86,000 region remains a major supply zone, where significant long-term holder positions could create additional selling pressure.
