Bitcoin Surges to Record High on Institutional Demand and Spot ETF Inflows
Bitcoin's price surged to a new record high in the week ending August 22, closing at $77,387 and marking a 22.7% increase over seven days.
This is Bitcoin's largest dollar-denominated weekly gain on record, according to CoinMarketCap data.
The rally followed an announcement by the US Treasury Department to expand its buyback program, which may have contributed to renewed institutional interest in the cryptocurrency.
Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw $1.92 billion in net inflows during the trading week ending August 21, the largest weekly total since October 2025, according to SoSoValue data.
Strive CEO Matt Cole pointed out that growing demand for scarcity in an AI-driven environment is driving capital towards assets with fixed or limited supply, such as gold and Bitcoin.
