Bitcoin Surpasses $75,000 as Bond Market Shifts and Regulatory Expectations Improve
The Bitcoin price has surpassed $75,000 due to a combination of factors. The US Treasury's decision to double its long-dated bond buybacks has lowered long-end yields and weakened the dollar, making non-yielding assets more attractive.
This move, dubbed 'QE Lite' by traders, is not just about bond yields but also about fiscal dominance. Matthew Sigel, head of digital assets research at VanEck, argues that the price reaction is more significant than a single announcement and has legs beyond one event.
The Treasury's decision triggered a sharp improvement in US regulatory expectations, with the CLARITY Act moving from stalled to scheduled. The bill aims to determine whether most digital assets are regulated as securities or commodities.
A bond market liquidity shift also contributed to Bitcoin's surge, with Wednesday producing the largest short liquidation event in crypto history. Over $2.75 billion in Bitcoin shorts were liquidated on Wednesday, followed by a further $783.2 million over the following 24 hours.
