Recent data suggests Bitcoin is shifting towards smaller transactions, aligning with Satoshi Nakamoto's original vision for the cryptocurrency.

CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju pointed out this trend on social media, focusing on peer-to-peer (P2P) payments. He examined transaction fees on the Bitcoin network and compared them to Ethereum's over a decade-long period.

The comparison revealed that Bitcoin fees have been cheaper than Ethereum's since 2021, with the median fee currently at $0.40 for BTC and $0.68 for ETH.

Ju also analyzed transaction sizes between $40 and $1,000 to identify likely P2P payments. The data showed larger median transaction sizes from 2019 to 2022 but a shift towards smaller transactions since 2023.
