Bitcoin Teeters at $82,865: Break or Breakdown?
Bitcoin's recent rally has been met with both excitement and skepticism as analysts try to determine if it marks the start of a genuine trend reversal. According to Gareth Soloway, chief market strategist at Verified Investing, Bitcoin's price action is approaching a critical technical level that could make or break its current trajectory.
Soloway notes that despite the rally, Bitcoin has not technically confirmed a new bull market. The key hurdle lies in breaking above the prior pivot high near $82,865, which the recent rally topped out around $82,300. Until this level is cleared, Bitcoin remains in a pattern of lower highs and lower lows, the technical definition of a downtrend.
Soloway identifies two bear flag trend lines from earlier price action that converge right around where the current rally has stalled. He describes this alignment as coincidental but notable, calling it the technical reason for the rally's cap. However, he emphasizes that this doesn't rule out a breakout and acknowledges recent price action has looked 'very, very good' overall.
If Bitcoin breaks above $82,865, Soloway believes it would represent the first higher high in the current pattern, opening the door to watching for higher lows on pullbacks. However, he cautions that even a break higher wouldn't preclude a pullback toward $68,000 and that the broader structure would begin shifting from a downtrend toward a potential uptrend.
