Bitcoin-Themed Sneakers That Can't Be Bought With Bitcoin Spark Controversy
Strategy, a bitcoin treasury firm, has faced criticism for selling Bitcoin-themed Air Jordan and Dunk sneakers that cannot be purchased using BTC. The shoes are sold on Strategy's website for $250 per pair, but only accept credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay as payment methods.
The social media platform X is filled with users criticizing Strategy for not accepting bitcoin payments, despite being a major player in the cryptocurrency industry. One user joked that 'bitcoin is worthless until people start accepting it as payment.'
Some users have even used generative AI to create their own custom-designed sneakers featuring various cryptocurrencies like XRP and KASPA.
This comes at a time when Strategy has paused its bitcoin buying activities, but has instead repurchased $176 million worth of its preferred stock STRC. This move has led some to question the company's motives behind not accepting BTC for merchandise sales.
