Bitcoin Ticks Above $88K on Thin Trading Amid Holiday Liquidity Crunch
Bitcoin's Christmas Day trading session saw it cross $88,000, reaching a price of $88,020 by 3:26 p.m. UTC, according to Binance market data.
The cryptocurrency maintained its range-bound trading throughout the holiday, hovering between $87,000 and $88,000 as multiple sources confirmed prices.
Trading volumes declined significantly due to institutional participants stepping away for the holidays, creating reduced liquidity that heightened Bitcoin's sensitivity to sudden moves.
A flash crash earlier in the day briefly sent Bitcoin to $24,111 on Binance's BTC/USD1 trading pair before recovering within seconds, appearing isolated to the USD1 stablecoin pair and not affecting other major BTC pairs.
