Bitcoin-to-iPhone Ratio Reverses as Price Drop and Rising iPhone Costs Offset Growth
The Bitcoin-to-iPhone chart has been a staple of crypto Twitter since Apple launched its first iPhone in 2011. Every September, enthusiasts calculate how many BTC it takes to buy a new iPhone, and the trend was clear: each year, it took fewer Bitcoins to buy one.
From 162 BTC for an iPhone 4S in 2011 to 0.007 BTC for an iPhone 17 in 2025, the narrative went that Bitcoin's value was growing exponentially while the price of iPhones remained steady.
However, 2026 disrupted this pattern. The iPhone 18 Pro costs more than double the Bitcoin of last year's base model, 0.016 BTC vs 0.007 BTC. Two factors contributed to this reversal: a 38% decline in Bitcoin's price and Apple raising prices by $400.
The trendline is dramatic, but it hides volatility. The chart ignores transaction costs and treats a speculative asset like a savings account. In 2025, you were a genius for holding BTC; in 2026, you need more of it to buy the same product.
