Bitcoin Tops $1M Target in 5 Years, VanEck Says It's a Base Case
VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel has forecasted that Bitcoin could reach $1 million per coin within five years. This projection aligns with those made by Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan and Jan3 CEO Samson Mow, who have also predicted seven-figure targets using different analytical frameworks.
Sigel explained the potential trajectory by comparing Bitcoin to the video game industry, noting that assets once seen as niche tend to broaden across age groups. He pointed out that the first central bank purchase of Bitcoin for reserves demonstrates that adoption is moving beyond retail speculation.
The road ahead will be challenging, according to Sigel. The current price indicates a significant climb from around $81,042 to reach a target of $1 million. However, he noted that Bitcoin's correlation with the Nasdaq has hit a five-year high and the lack of froth in derivatives markets supports a constructive outlook.
