Bitcoin Transaction Count Hits Fourth-Highest Level Amid Rise in Small Transfers
Bitcoin's daily transaction count reached its fourth-highest level in history on September 7, according to Galaxy Research. The network processed 893,391 transactions, a 23.4% increase from the previous day and more than double the corresponding level one year earlier.
This reading exceeds the 99th percentile of Bitcoin's historical range, with Galaxy ranking it among the most active days since the asset began operating in 2009. Research firm CryptoQuant found that small transfers have driven much of the increase, accounting for about 80% of Bitcoin transactions in 2026.
Despite the surge in transaction count, the economic value carried by these transactions remains relatively small compared to their share of the total count. Low-value transfers can generate substantial activity without moving a comparable amount of capital, particularly when fees are low.
