Bitcoin Tumbles Toward $10,000 on Wall Street Overheating
Bloomberg Intelligence senior macro strategist Mike McGlone has sounded a warning bell for Bitcoin's prospects, citing its increasingly tight correlation with U.S. equities and the looming Federal Reserve policy tightening as crucial downside signals.
In his assessment, the leading cryptocurrency is rapidly losing its status as independent 'digital gold' and turning into an ordinary stock market puppet, McGlone warns.
The analysis highlights three key pressure factors: a technical ceiling at $76,746, which Bitcoin failed to break above; rate factor, with one-year federal funds futures pricing in 70 basis points of Fed rate hikes, draining liquidity from speculative markets; and Wall Street overheating, as the S&P 500 has moved critically far above its 200-week moving average.
The potential consequences are dire, McGlone believes: if the S&P 500 enters a correction phase and loses 20%, Bitcoin will inevitably plunge toward its long-term fundamental pivot in the $10,000 area. For now, macroeconomic indicators point in the opposite direction.
