Bitcoin Volatility Collapses to Record Low, Analysts Flag 'Coiled Spring' Setup
Bitcoin's realized volatility has plummeted to an exceptionally low level, only about 1.5% of all trading days since its creation have been quieter. According to Fidelity Digital Assets, this reading is indicative of a 'coiled spring' setup, where the tighter compression leads to more violent release.
Independent analysis corroborated the finding, with weekly Bitcoin volatility measured at approximately the 1.48th percentile and Bollinger Band Width reaching extreme historical levels.
Fidelity's own historical data shows that when one-year realized volatility hits new lows, large price increases have typically followed, a pattern repeated across multiple market cycles.
The current environment is being framed as part of a broader maturation phase for Bitcoin's volatility profile by analysts such as VanEck. The mechanics of a coiled spring are also at play, with low volatility and volume creating a feedback loop that makes sudden moves more likely, not less.
