Bitcoin Volatility Continues: Will It Break Through $80K This Week?
Bitcoin's price continues to be volatile, currently sitting at $78,800 after a nearly 2% drop in the past 24 hours. The crypto market is still reeling from its sharp knock against the $80,000 ceiling earlier this week.
Analysts are now weighing whether Bitcoin will attempt to break through this barrier again this week. BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes argues that the current bull market is not being fueled by a Fed rate cut or regulatory shift, but rather by the Treasury's decision to expand buybacks of its own longer-dated bonds.
This move, according to Hayes, is similar to Janet Yellen's late-2023 playbook, which pulled roughly $2.4 trillion out of the Fed's Reverse Repo Program and into risk assets, including Bitcoin.
While some see this as a bullish sign, others are more cautious. The $80,000 level remains a key psychological benchmark for Bitcoin, and a decisive close above it could confirm the Treasury-liquidity thesis and open room toward $84,000+. However, if rejected at $80K, price may send Bitcoin back toward $74,000.
