Bitcoin Volatility Looms Ahead of Key Central Bank Announcements
The Federal Reserve's rate decision on Wednesday and the Bank of Japan's following announcement two days later are expected to have significant implications for Bitcoin.
According to XWIN Japan, a stronger Japanese yen could accelerate the unwinding of carry trades, putting stocks and crypto under pressure simultaneously. Higher US rates would tighten global liquidity, while a stronger yen would speed up the unwind of yen-funded carry trades, causing investors to cut risk across stocks and crypto at once.
The setup has already shifted rapidly, with August payrolls coming in at 162,000, triple what economists expected, and producer prices accelerating to an annual 5.4%. Last week's CPI print confirmed headline inflation at 3.4%, causing Bitcoin to react by sliding from about $82,400 to under $78,000 since Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech and the hot data that followed.
Markets are pricing in an approximately 85% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed hike, with XWIN Japan warning traders to watch US yields, USD/JPY, spot Bitcoin ETF flows, and underlying demand, as these will indicate the real test for the market.
