Bitcoin Wallet Awakens, Moving 1,260 BTC Amidst Casascius Redemptions
A long-dormant Bitcoin wallet that received coins in mid-2016 has been active again, moving over 1,260 BTC to a new address. This transaction follows similar activity from even older wallets, such as those dating back to 2010.
The originating wallet used the P2PKH format and transferred 1,260.77 BTC at block height 965770, sending it to a newer P2WPKH address with no prior history. This type of transfer often indicates an upgrade to lower future fees or cleaner key management, rather than an immediate sale.
Separately, collectors have been opening Casascius physical Bitcoins, which contain a private key sealed under a holographic sticker. Tracker data show nearly 75 one-Bitcoin series-one pieces were redeemed in the first six days of September, with dozens more being opened in the hours that followed.
