Bitcoin Wallet Keys Generated from Radioactive Decay
An open-source Bitcoin seed generator called Entropy32 Plus has found an unconventional way to produce randomness: by harnessing radioactive decay. The project, developed by Alexander Higgins and published in September 2026, uses a Geiger counter to measure the time between detected radiation events.
The device's firmware converts these timing intervals into bits, collects a 512-bit input pool, and then processes it with SHA-256. This produces a conditioned hash that is formatted as a standard BIP39 recovery phrase, which can be used to restore wallet access.
While the Entropy32 Plus project claims to provide an offline source of randomness, Higgins cautions users not to trust it with substantial funds until an independent review has been conducted. The device's developer acknowledges that the quality of the entropy remains unvalidated and recommends further testing according to NIST SP 800-90B standards.
