Bitcoin Whale Addresses Reach New Six-Month High Amid Ongoing Accumulation Trend
Bitcoin's largest investors are increasing their holdings at an accelerated pace, with the number of addresses holding at least 10,000 BTC reaching a six-month high of 90, according to on-chain analytics firm Santiment. This represents a 7.1% increase over the past eight weeks.
The accumulation trend is notable because it shows that large-scale investors are confident in Bitcoin's future value and are positioning themselves for potential price increases. In contrast, smaller holders have been reducing their positions since August, with retail addresses selling off approximately $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin.
This divergence between whale and retail behavior is often seen as a bullish signal, indicating that the market is building a foundation for upward movement. Historically, when whales accumulate during periods of retail distribution, it can lead to price increases as the supply of Bitcoin becomes concentrated in the hands of long-term holders.
Santiment suggests that this ongoing accumulation trend increases the likelihood of Bitcoin breaking above $70,000 rather than falling below $60,000. This assessment is supported by technical analysis, which shows strong support around $60,000 and resistance near $70,000.
