Bitcoin Whale Awakens After 15 Years, Transfers $40 Million in BTC
A notable Bitcoin whale has reactivated after 15 years of inactivity, sparking interest among cryptocurrency enthusiasts and analysts. According to Galaxy Research data, six Bitcoin wallets created between 2011 and 2014 have become active again.
These addresses transferred a total of 553.59 BTC between August 16 and 26, valued at approximately $40 million at current prices.
One wallet that moved had been inactive for over 15 years, suggesting some assets from BTC's early days are resurfacing on the chain.
The transfers do not necessarily indicate a sale, as five of the six wallets sent their Bitcoins to addresses not linked to any known cryptocurrency exchanges.
Galaxy Digital Research Head Alex Thorn noted that on-chain activity in dormant BTC has decreased significantly recently, with legacy coin transfers falling to their lowest level since Q3 2022.
