Bitcoin Whales Flock to Binance Amidst Mixed Market Signals
Nearly half of all Bitcoin (BTC) in circulation is currently underwater, as large-scale investors, or 'whales', move assets to Binance at a rate not seen since April. This mixed signal suggests that the market may be approaching the tail end of a bear market, but also points to potential short-term selling pressure.
According to CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost, only 52% of Bitcoin's supply is currently in profit, while nearly half of all Bitcoin is being held at a loss. Historically, periods when this metric falls below 50% have served as major inflection points in bear markets, and it's possible that the current market is at an advanced stage.
Darkfost noted that on August 5, Binance's whale inflow ratio climbed to 0.52, marking its highest level in four months. The whale inflow ratio measures the proportion of Bitcoin deposits to an exchange that come from large-scale investors, and a rising ratio typically indicates rising selling pressure.
However, Darkfost cautioned that a spike in the whale inflow ratio does not necessarily lead to price declines, as it can also be seen at market bottoms characterized by extreme fear and capitulation selling.
