Bitcoin Whales Fuel Price Surge But Analysts Warn of More Pain Ahead
Bitcoin whales have been accumulating large amounts of BTC in recent weeks, with over $3 billion worth purchased in just seven days. This buying activity has largely driven the recent price surge from under $65,000 to over $81,000, although analysts remain cautious about the market's future trajectory.
According to Santiment Intelligence data, whales have added over 39,150 BTC to their holdings since last week, signaling a continued interest in the primary cryptocurrency. In contrast, retail investors have been mostly selling, with further on-chain data suggesting that they have actually been reducing their positions.
Analysts such as Rekt Capital and Crypto Haris have warned of potential pain ahead for BTC, with some predicting a pullback to $62,000 before another leg down takes the price back to the $67,000 region. While whales' buying activity has been driving the recent rally, their continued accumulation could also contribute to further volatility in the market.
Rekt Capital noted that BTC's real test begins after a strong weekly close, and warned that if the latest surge is ultimately a bear-market relief rally, the cryptocurrency could pull back in the following few weeks. This would require sustained strength at elevated levels rather than an immediate retreat from the recent breakout.
