Bitcoin Whales Unite: Mid-Sized and Mega-Cohorts Accumulate in Tandem

Bitcoin's mid-sized and mega-whale cohorts are accumulating at a pace not seen since April, according to on-chain data analyzed by Amar Taha. The 60-day cumulative net buying figure for wallets holding between 100 and 1,000 BTC reached 73,300 BTC as of August 31, the highest level since April 21.

This accumulation marks a notable shift in market positioning among mid-sized whales, who have been steadily adding to their positions during a period of price consolidation. Unlike the spring, when buying was concentrated among smaller whales while larger entities sold off, the current market shows both cohorts moving in the same direction.

The current alignment between mid-sized and mega-whales is encouraging for bulls, but Taha notes that whale behavior can shift quickly, and the market remains sensitive to macroeconomic factors such as interest rate expectations, regulatory news, and broader risk appetite. Historically, whale accumulation during consolidation phases has often preceded upward moves, but it is not a guaranteed signal.
