Bitcoin Whales Unite: Mid-Sized and Mega-Whale Cohorts Accumulate in Tandem
The mid-sized Bitcoin whales have been accumulating at their fastest pace since April, according to on-chain data analyzed by Amar Taha. The 60-day cumulative net buying by this cohort reached a record 73,300 BTC as of August 31, surpassing the previous high set in April.
This marks a notable shift in market positioning among mid-sized whales, who have been steadily accumulating during a period of price consolidation. In contrast to the spring, when smaller whales bought aggressively while mega-whales sold off roughly 40,000 BTC in mid-May, this time both cohorts are moving in tandem.
Taha notes that wallets holding more than 10,000 BTC also accumulated 43,300 BTC over the same period. This coordinated accumulation could indicate a more sustained demand from high-net-worth individuals and institutional players, though on-chain data alone does not reveal the identity or intent of these holders.
The current alignment between mid-sized and mega-whales is encouraging for bulls, but it's essential to treat this data as one of many indicators rather than a definitive predictor. Historically, whale accumulation during consolidation phases has often preceded upward moves, but it's not a guaranteed signal.
