Bitcoin's 25% Surge: End of Bear Market or Just a Dead-Cat Bounce?
Bitcoin's recent price surge has left many wondering if it signals the end of the bear market. The cryptocurrency rallied by 25% this week, pushing its price close to $80K and reclaiming key technical levels such as the 200-day Moving Average ($69K) and the short-term holder (STH) realized cost basis of $68K.
This development has sparked optimism among some analysts. Galaxy Research believes that if Bitcoin can reclaim the $82K level, it could confirm the end of the bear market. They base this on historical data showing that 11 out of 13 times when the 50-week Moving Average was reclaimed during a completed bear market, the bear-market low was in.
However, not everyone is convinced that this rally marks the start of a bull run. Jake Ostrovskis, Head of OTC trading at Wintermute, noted that while this week's gains are impressive, they don't necessarily signal a full trend reversal or regime shift. He pointed out that institutional participation, as measured by basis yield, remains low and doesn't show signs of stretched positioning.
Jason Calanis, founder of All In Podcast, even called the rally a 'dead-cat bounce', suggesting it may not be sustainable in the long term. The market will likely continue to watch the price action closely, especially with the upcoming Jackson Hole meeting for central banks.
