Bitcoin's 26% Weekly Surge Sparks Hope for End of Bear Market
Bitcoin's recent surge of nearly 26% over the past week has analysts taking note, and some are suggesting that it could be a sign that the bear market is coming to an end.
The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization climbed from around $62,700 to $79,500 in just one week, with many traders caught off guard by the sharp rebound.
According to popular analyst Ali Martinez, this type of powerful weekly reversal could be a sign that Bitcoin has entered a new bullish cycle. He pointed to two earlier instances where similar patterns emerged near the end of major bear markets, including a 32% weekly gain in 2019 and a 25% jump in January 2023.
Martinez suggested that aggressive short positioning may have fueled the rally, as rising prices forced bearish traders to close losing positions, creating additional buying pressure. He noted that the current move came despite expectations among some market participants that Bitcoin could establish a major bottom later in the year based on the traditional four-year cycle.
Other analysts are also optimistic about Bitcoin's prospects, with Ted Pillows highlighting the cryptocurrency's proximity to establishing a new higher high and Celal Kucuker predicting a potential target of $144,000 for Bitcoin.
