Bitcoin's $73K Surge Triggers Bull Trap Fears Amid Heavy Selling Pressure
Bitcoin's recent surge to $73,000 has left many traders cautious about its sustainability. The price move comes after weeks of sideways price action that had kept the market stuck in a narrow range.
Analysts point to heavy selling pressure above current price levels and derivatives markets showing positioning that could work against the bulls. Some traders expect the $72,000 to $76,000 range to attract sellers rather than new buyers, which would cap any further advance.
The concern is tied to Bitcoin's history in January, when it appeared to break out before reversing course sharply and falling from around $98,000 to roughly $60,000 in just two weeks. Radu Tunaru, professor of finance and risk management at Henley Business School, said that geopolitical shocks have historically contributed to major market sell-offs.
For Bitcoin to confirm a genuine recovery, the price would need to climb back toward $98,000, breaking the pattern of lower highs that began with January's failed breakout. Until that happens, the current move remains inside a structure that has previously failed.
