Bitcoin's attempt to breach $80,000 was met with resistance as it declined sharply in value. The cryptocurrency dropped around $1,500 before buyers returned at around $78,400.

After losing support at $79,500, Bitcoin managed to recover above $79,000.

The recent decline may be a sign of caution from US investors, with Coinbase's Bitcoin premium turning negative for the first time in three months.
