The idea that Bitcoin is completely anonymous has been a misconception for years, according to experts.
BTC transactions are pseudonymous, meaning wallet addresses aren't inherently tied to your identity, but every transaction is permanently recorded on a public ledger.
This means that once an address connects to any real-world identifier, like an exchange account, the entire transaction history becomes traceable.
A 2024 report from Chainalysis found that illicit crypto flows are increasingly traceable because criminals assume the chain is a black box, when in fact it's more like a phone bill that never gets deleted.
