Bitcoin's August Rally Faces 'Red September' Challenge

Bitcoin's price surged in August, its strongest monthly performance since November 2024 and best August since 2017. The cryptocurrency posted its first green in August in five years, ending the month above $80,000. This turnaround was largely driven by renewed institutional demand for U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, which saw $3.52 billion in net inflows last month.

Analysts warn that despite this momentum, September may still be a challenging month for BTC. Historically, Bitcoin has struggled during 'Red September,' a period characterized by seasonal risk-off trading and broader market weakness. Some predict a potential 20-40% drop in price.

Despite these cautions, on-chain analyst Willy Woo suggests that Bitcoin's adoption story is gaining traction. He estimates that around 5% of the world's population owns BTC, slightly higher than global ownership of gold and the S&P 500.
