Bitcoin's August Rally Faces Test as Fed Hike Bets Return
Bitcoin's strong August rally is facing its first major test as it enters September. The cryptocurrency has gained around 25% in value over the past month, but rising expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike and increasing oil prices are creating headwinds.
The Fed's hawkish stance, fueled by comments from new Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole economic symposium, is pushing markets toward higher interest rates. This could reduce liquidity and put pressure on risk assets like Bitcoin.
However, a weaker-than-expected employment report in August's private-sector data could alleviate some of this pressure. The US labor market will also be under scrutiny, with initial jobless claims due Thursday and nonfarm payrolls released Friday.
Geopolitical tensions are also contributing to the uncertainty surrounding Bitcoin's price action. Renewed US strikes involving Iran have pushed Brent crude above $90 per barrel, which could further complicate the inflation outlook and lead to tighter monetary policy.
