Bitcoin's August Surge Raises Questions About September Correction
Bitcoin has ended August on a high note, closing out the month with a 24% gain from its July levels. The cryptocurrency's price has hovered around $78,320 after a slight pullback.
The strong performance in August was driven by increased institutional demand for Bitcoin, with U.S. spot ETFs reportedly attracting over $3 billion in August alone, including $924 million in the final week.
A key factor contributing to Bitcoin's surge was the U.S. Treasury doubling its long-term bond buybacks from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation.
Historical data suggests that September has historically been a weaker month for Bitcoin, with an average return of around -3%. In fact, in several years, including 2013, 2017, 2020, and 2021, strong gains in July and August were followed by corrections in September.
