Bitcoin's BIP-110 Mandatory Signaling Window Sees Low Miner Support
Bitcoin's BIP-110 has entered its mandatory-signaling window, but miner support remains low. According to the latest data, just 2.53% of blocks preceding block 961,632 signaled support for the proposal, far below the required 55% threshold.
The proposal aims to introduce temporary limits on transaction/script and data sizes to curb non-monetary on-chain bloat, particularly inscriptions. Enforcing nodes have started rejecting blocks that do not set version bit 4, but ordinary Bitcoin nodes continue to accept both signaling and non-signaling blocks.
A smaller 'BIP-110 branch' has emerged, but it quickly fell behind the dominant chain extended by most miners. The low miner support level raises concerns about the long-term viability of any rival branch, which could stall if miners continue extending blocks that enforcement nodes will not accept.
