Bitcoin's Bounce Inspires Fresh Look at Undervalued Stocks
The recent market discussions have highlighted companies that have experienced difficult times in the past few months but now appear to be undervalued, particularly when compared to top performers this year.
Two such companies are Super Micro Computer (SMCI) and Strategy (MSTR), formerly known as MicroStrategy. While they offer bargains, their recent performances raise concerns.
Super Micro Computer provides high-performance server and storage equipment. Its stock jumped by nearly 20% on Wednesday after the company preannounced Q4 revenue at the low end of guidance but increased its gross margin projection from 8.2-17%. The backlog has grown to $60 billion.
However, Super Micro Computer's recent history is marred by accounting irregularities and allegations of illegal activities, including a scheme to ship servers and GPUs to China. Despite Wednesday's rally, the stock remains below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Analysts remain cautious about investing in this company.
Strategy (MSTR), on the other hand, is a software provider that doubles as a bitcoin holding company. With bitcoin reaching a one-month high this week, some investors are considering new positions in this beaten-down stock. The stock has gained 5% over the past week but remains down 36% year-to-date.
