Bitcoin's Breakout Hinges on Overcoming Key $80K Barrier
The $80,000 level has emerged as a crucial threshold for Bitcoin's breakout from the current bear market. According to analysts, this zone is where several technical and on-chain indicators are converging, making it a major market barrier. The capital-weighted cost basis of Bitcoin near $79,600 suggests that a close above $80,000 could return a large share of invested capital to profit.
Market structure highlights a heavy resistance band between $83,307 and $84,569, where nearly 975,000 BTC were acquired. This concentration of supply could create friction for Bitcoin on its first attempt to push through the area.
Analyst Ali Martinez pointed out that Bitcoin's current price action resembles the 2022-2023 bottoming structure, with the May 2026 high near $83,000 coming back into focus as a potential target. However, the path higher may not be straightforward, and a retracement from this zone is possible before the crypto asset makes another move higher.
